The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chapter in Kogi State has targeted former Senator Dino Melaye, recent The party was labeled “dead”.
A statement by party elders led by Ibrahim Dansofo said Malaye’s political ambitions were dashed and he could no longer even hold the post of local councillor.
The party’s statement highlighted Melaye’s lack of electoral success, noting that he failed to win his own voting unit during his campaign for governorship. The Kogi PDP statement called him a burden, suggesting that his continued association with the party was only to negotiate personal interests with the ruling party rather than to contribute positively to the PDP.
“Senator Melaye has become a liability to the party. His allegations against the current leadership are hypocritical and he himself was given the governorship despite the party knowing that he could not even win the primary election,” the statement read.
The Peoples Democratic Party in Kogi State has blamed Malaye for the party’s current predicament, claiming that nominating Malaye was a major blunder that led to the party’s current woes.
They also called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and his running mate in the 2023 presidential election, former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, to reassess their support for Maraye, urging them to distance themselves from those they described as a “shackle” and “major burden” to the party.
The Peoples Democratic Party in Kogi State also urged the Ijumu Local Executive Committee to immediately initiate suspension proceedings against Maraye, stressing the need to restore the integrity of the party and focus on developing viable leaders.
The statement concluded by calling on the Nigerian public to ignore Malaye’s comments, calling them “desperate statements from a man whose political influence has long since vanished.”
“The Peoples Democratic Party in Kogi State is determined to forge ahead, recapture its strength and rebuild its reputation as a strong political force in the state.
