London: Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a series of missile attacks on several Ukrainian cities, including the capital, Kiev, killing and injuring dozens of people and damaging a children’s cancer hospital.
In the largest bombing campaign in months, rockets fired in broad daylight also hit the southern cities of Dnipropetrovnik, Kropivnitsky and Krivy Rog.

The local government said that at least seven people were killed and many were injured in a missile attack on Kiev. At least 20 people were killed and 31 were injured in an attack on the central city of Krivoy Rog in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
The attack came on the eve of a NATO summit in Washington, where Ukraine hopes to secure a long-term pledge of aid from allies as it fights Europe’s biggest conflict since World War II.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who is visiting Poland, said Russia launched about 40 missiles at targets in Poland.
“The whole world must do everything to finally put an end to the Russian attack,” Zelensky said on TV X. “The killing was brought about by (Vladimir) Putin. Only by uniting together can we bring about real peace and security.”
Ukraine’s air force reported that Russian forces had fired multiple ballistic and cruise missiles, with explosions ringing out across the capital. The air force said the attack included Kinzhal hypersonic missiles that fly at 10 times the speed of sound.
Military authorities in Kiev said on Telegram that at least seven people were killed and nine others were injured in the city, urging people to stay in shelters across the city.
