Nine butchered bodies tied in plastic bags have been pulled from an abandoned quarry in Mukuru slum since Friday, a gruesome discovery that has shocked the nation.
Acting Police Commissioner Douglas Kanja said the 33-year-old suspect, Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, was arrested at around 3am (0000 GMT) near a Nairobi bar where he was watching the Euro 2024 football final.
“We are facing a serial killer, a psychopathic serial killer who has no respect for human life,” Criminal Investigation Department chief Mohammad Amin told reporters. “We are facing a bloodsucker, a psychopath.”
Amin said Kalusha claimed the murders took place between 2022 and July 11 this year.
“The suspect admitted to luring, killing and dumping the bodies of 42 women,” he added. “Unfortunately, and this is very sad, the suspect claimed that his first victim was his wife… He strangled her to death and then dismembered her body and dumped it at the same location.”
Police said Kalusha will appear in court on Tuesday.[Reuters]
