The president of the National Search Commission, Carla Quintana, sent a letter to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on Wednesday evening, offering her resignation and making public the letter she received on social networks. “Today I submitted to the President my resignation as Commissioner of the National Search Commission.”
Quintana expressed her opinion in a letter submitted to and published by the federal executive branch: “Given the current situation, my resignation is irrevocable and takes effect immediately today (August 23),” she wrote in the letter, without clarifying the “context” referred to.
In the same minutes filed at 7:16pm on Wednesday 23 August, he clarified:
“Challenges related to missing persons remain. The Mexican State must continue its efforts to implement a comprehensive policy of prevention, search and fight against impunity in order to guarantee the rights of missing persons, their families and society at large to know the truth and to achieve justice.”
“I appreciate the trust you have placed in me and the team you have built.”

According to the National Registry of Missing and Unaccounted Persons, a total of 42,029 people were recorded missing across the country from December 1, 2018 to May 24 this year.
