Can Kanak fashion be exported? This is the bet of fashion designers Christiane Waneissi and Martine Passa. Next month, the two women from Lifou will present an original collection at an event organized by the American Creative Pacific Foundation. This Sunday the meeting will take place at the Art Factory in Noumea.
It was a fashion show that had the feel of a dress rehearsal, attended by the public who came to the Art Factory in Noumea on Sunday. In a month, all the clothes will be exhibited at the headquarters of the Creative Pacific Foundation in Utah, USA.

The two Lifou designers will show about 15 looks in total, mostly redesigned mission gowns. Objective: “Enhance mission clothing by adding lace and embroidery”, Martina Pasa explains.

Through this collection, called “Lapita”, Christiane and Martine share a common dream: to bring Kanak fashion across the Pacific. “We will also benefit from a training platform, where for a week we will learn with professionals from the fashion industry, which is very popular in the United States.”
Christiane is convinced that fashion is a real economic opportunity for Kanak women. The next step after the United States: selling her creations in a boutique in Montpellier.
