Bollywood star Salman Khan and former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni were among the celebrity guests present at the event on Friday.

According to Indian media reports, Bieber was rumoured to be paid up to US$10 million (S$13.5 million) for the performance.

Ahead of this month’s main event, Anat Ambani and Merchant have already hosted two elaborate, star-studded parties, including a three-day celebration in Gujarat in February.

Rihanna performed her first concert there since last year’s Super Bowl, with guests including Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and former US President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka.

In June, the couple embarked on a four-day Mediterranean cruise, where singer Katy Perry performed at a masquerade ball at a French castle in Cannes.

The Backstreet Boys, American rapper Pitbull and Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli also gave wonderful performances.

Anat’s billionaire father is no stranger to expensive weddings.

In 2018, he threw his daughter India’s most expensive wedding to date, which reportedly cost $100 million and featured a performance by American singer Beyoncé.

According to the Forbes rich list, Reliance Industries Chairman Ambani, 67, has a fortune of more than $113 billion, ranking 11th richest person in the world.

He is also a key ally of India’s right-wing Hindu nationalist leader, Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Ambani inherited a thriving industrial business with interests spanning oil, gas and petrochemicals.

He built it into a business giant with lucrative interests in retail, telecommunications and an Indian Premier League cricket team.

Merchant is the daughter of a famous pharmaceutical tycoon.
