Just-Sold Alpine Luxury Home Sets New Jersey Price Record for 2024

Frequently ranked as one of the most expensive ZIP codes in the country, this leafy suburb unsurprisingly became the Garden State’s most expensive area this year.

Last month, a 22,782-square-foot estate in the town of Alpine in Bergen County sold for $16.7 million. Built in 2004, the home sits on about four acres in the town’s Rio Vista section and was listed in March for just under $20 million.

The impressive four-story, elevator-accessible residence features eight bedrooms, nine full bathrooms and three half bathrooms. The 25-room, brick, slate-roofed residence includes a bowling alley, home theater, billiards room and large wine cellar.

The outside space is equally impressive, with a pool, cabana, tennis court and putting green. The property also has a separate guest house and an eight-car garage that has been upgraded with a commercial generator and several high-efficiency furnaces.

The home is not far from Rio Vista, a large stone tower built in 1910 that is probably the largest landmark in the Alps. It was originally commissioned by millionaire sugar importer and former Alps resident Manuel Rionda as a gift for his wife.

According to real estate records, the sellers purchased the mansion in 2013 for $13.375 million, which means they made a profit despite the actual sale price being lower than the original asking price. The mansion is listed by Rosemarie Campi with Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty-Alpine.

The $16.7 million sale price appears to have broken the Garden State’s previous record set in 2024. Another home in Alpine on Cambridge Road sold in May for $8 million after being on the market for years, which appears to have been the previous record.

Despite its status, Alpine is not the most expensive area in the state. Asbury Park Pressthe most expensive home currently on sale in New Jersey is an equestrian estate in Colts Neck that sits on 160 acres and has seven bedrooms, 12 bathrooms and a barn.
