Social media has enabled millions of people around the world to not only witness Israel’s genocidal war against Gaza firsthand, but also to relate emotionally to those who share their own lives in the besieged Gaza Strip.
One of those Gazans is Mohammad Halimy, who goes by the name Medo on Instagram and TikTok.
His Instagram bio reads: “I’m just a Gazan trying to get by in life.”
Halimi, 19, was reportedly killed on Monday in Khan Younis by shrapnel from an explosion caused by an Israeli missile strike nearby.
In his last video release Hours before he was killed, Halimi revealed some details of his life in the tent, calling it “tent life,” including “designs for my new secret project.”
Halimi and his family were among the millions of people forced to flee their homes when Israel launched a military offensive on the Gaza Strip following the outbreak of resistance on October 7.
Halimi, who has more than 250,000 followers on Instagram and TikTok, shares videos of real-life experiences of genocide.
This was the last video of 19-year-old Palestinian video blogger Medo Halimy, who was injured by shrapnel while on a Gaza beach with friends during an Israeli airstrike on August 26, which left him in a coma and he later died from his injuries.

“Daily Planting”
In June, he began documenting what he calls his “new hobby” from his tent at a camp near al-Mawasi beach.
Although he says he’s “not really an expert,” he began growing edibles like lima beans and mint, and documented his hobby in a series of posts titled “Growing Every Day Until the War Ends.”
He even took the advice of his followers and started growing watermelons, a symbol of Palestine.
By July, he had planted several plants to form what he calls a “small farm.”
“It’s not easy”
Halimi responded to a question in one of the videos titled “Important” Lack Water and food in Gaza.
Halimi said: “I just showed you 1% of my life… I am a positive person… You don’t know what we went through, what we went through hell… I’m telling you … I wouldn’t wish that on anybody, not even my enemies.”
“What I went through was not easy. Imagine life without electricity, drinking water was very scarce, food was very scarce, it wasn’t even food, it was just canned food and it was very scarce. I hadn’t had real chicken for a long time, I hadn’t had real meat for a long time, we only had canned food, it was very unhealthy.”

Halimi said he had witnessed at least three deaths in the past few months and often documented the difficulty of getting drinking water in the settlement and the simple meals he and his family made in their tent.
He once posted, “Sorry I haven’t posted in a while, all this fake food we eat is making me sick.”
He said Halimi’s grandmother died in June due to “poor medical conditions and lack of medicine in the settlement”.
Last week, he told the story of how his 11-year-old cousin was killed in an Israeli airstrike, just “3 minutes” after he had kissed his mother and told her “he loved her.”
“She didn’t know it was a goodbye kiss,” Halimi wrote, adding, “He didn’t deserve this… He wasn’t a number, none of them are!… No one deserves to be treated like this.”
“The world has failed you, Meadow”
Halimi’s killing has left his social media followers grief-stricken and angry.
“Now they have killed one of our loved ones again. Israel doesn’t realize that we love these people, they have become our family, we will not forgive or forget, I speak for millions of Muslims and non-Muslims in every country around the world,” one fan commented.
Another said: “I can’t bring myself to believe it, I’m so sorry the world failed you Meadow.”
Another commented: “I look forward to your videos every day. To know you are still alive and to know your garden is thriving. A garden will continue to grow, even if someone tries to destroy it, it will continue to thrive, just like the people of Gaza and Palestine.”
Psychology Major
Like many others in Gaza, Halimi has a GoFundMe account to help his family “rebuild their lives.”
According to the appeal, Halimi said he had planned to return to the United States after attending high school for one year.
“I had planned to go back to the U.S. to attend college, major in psychology, and then continue my education and become a psychiatrist to help as many people as I could.”
“I am writing these words today in a tent in Rafah, right next to the Egyptian border, to raise funds to help me and my family evacuate and leave the Gaza Strip,” he wrote, adding, “Hopefully we can live a good life and continue to chase my dreams and the dreams of my family.”
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, 40,602 Palestinians have been killed and 93,855 injured in Israel’s ongoing genocide against the Gaza Strip since it began on October 7.
In addition, at least 11,000 people remain missing in the Gaza Strip, presumed dead under the rubble of their homes.
