He also expanded the grounds for detention to include terrorist attacks.
On Friday, the judge of the Specialized Criminal Court (ŠTS) in charge of the preliminary hearing in the murder case of Prime Minister SR Robert Fico (Smer-SD) rejected the defendant Juraj C.’s request for release from custody. At the same time, he followed the recommendation of the prosecutor of the Office of the Attorney General of the Slovak Republic (GP) and expanded the grounds for the detention of the defendant. GP spokesperson Zuzana Drobová informed about this.
“The judge expanded the grounds for the detention of the defendant to include those that fall within the meaning of Article 7. 71 of the Criminal Code, Article 2, because the defendant is being prosecuted for the criminal act of a terrorist attack,” explained Derobova.
On May 15, Juraj C. fatally shot Prime Minister Fico after a government walkout meeting in Handlova. He was initially charged with particularly aggravated attempted murder. In early July, the legal qualification was changed and the defendant was indicted for particularly aggravated terrorist attack.
