NEW YORK (AP) — Aaron Judge hit his major league-leading 49th home run of the season on Friday, and the New York Yankees beat the Colorado Rockies 3-0.
Judge homered for the fourth straight game against Kyle Freeland (3-6) in the sixth inning when the ball disappeared 388 feet from home plate between left field and center field.
In his previous at-bat, Judge hit a double and was out.
As everyone clamored for him to be named the Most Valuable Player, Judge hit a high ball to third base in the eighth inning to end his final inning.
Judge has hit eight homers in his last 11 games and 17 in his last 34. He is one homer away from becoming just the fifth player in history to hit 50 homers in three seasons. He is on pace to match the 62 homers he hit in 2022, when he broke the American League record set by the late Yankees slugger Roger Maris in 1961.
Carlos Rodon (14-8) moved into the MLB wins lead after striking out five opponents and allowing four hits in six innings. Clay Holmes got his 27th save.
The Rockies are led by Venezuelan Ezequiel Tovar, who is 3-1.
For the Yankees, Venezuelan Gleyber Torres is 4-1. Dominican Juan Soto is 3-0. Mexican Alex Verdugo is 2-0.
