Tegucigalpa – Former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández Alvarado has been sentenced in the Southern District Court of New York and will appeal his verdict on June 26, 2024.
The appeal was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and will be heard by the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
Former Honduran President Hernández was found guilty after standing trial on drug trafficking charges. The ruling, issued on June 26, 2024, corresponds to case No. 15-CR-379 and covers conviction and sentencing.

The notice of appeal shows that the crime for which Hernandez was convicted occurred after Nov. 1, 1987. The document states that the terms of Hernandez’s bail or incarceration were compromised.
District Judge Kevin Castel was in charge of sentencing. Hernandez now seeks to appeal his conviction and sentence.
The appeal comes as Hernandez’s defense and family say the Second Circuit’s ruling will be decisive for the convicted man’s judicial future.
