Johnny Gaudreau’s wife paid tribute to her late husband in two social media posts on Saturday, her first public comments since the former Flames forward’s death.
Meredith Gaudreau posted two family photos of Gaudreau on Instagram, praising him as the “best dad” to their one-year-old daughter Noah and six-month-old son Johnny. In another post, she thanked her late husband for giving her the best time of her life, calling herself the luckiest girl in the world for the quality time they had together.
“I love you so so so much. You are perfect. Sometimes it feels too good to be true. I love every bit of you. You are my forever and I can’t wait to be with you again. I love you forever,” she said in a post accompanied by numerous family photos.
“Absolutely the best dad in the world. So caring and loving. “The best thing about being a parent. John never missed an appointment. He was the best at getting the baby to sleep and the apple of Noah’s eye. I love that she looks like him. We will make you proud. We love you so so so much, Dad.”

Just one day before Gaudreau and his brother, Matthew, were to serve as best men at their sister’s wedding, they were both killed by a suspected drunk driver.

The brothers are facing charges in the death of a driver who was struck from behind while riding their bicycles near their childhood home in New Jersey Thursday night.

Flames fans, many wearing Gaudreau jerseys, continued to place jerseys and hats on the steps of Scotiabank Saddleback Arena to pay their respects. Others placed Skittles and purple Gatorade bottles, Gaudreau’s favorite snack.
Kimberly Brass, an avid Flames fan, said she was devastated by the news and remained emotional Saturday as she expressed her condolences.
“He brought so much joy to the Calgary Flames,” she said. “It breaks my heart to see this.”
Young Flames fan Dominic Primeau, who wore a signed Gaudreau jersey to pay tribute at the Dome on Saturday, said he grew up watching his idol play hockey. He became emotional as he shared his love for the player.
“It was a really big shock to me. When my parents told me, I couldn’t believe it at first,” he said.
“I know Johnny is well-loved. I’m proud that everybody is here to support Johnny.”
Flames season ticket holder Tessa MacArthur paid tribute on Saturday, saying she felt like she was living a nightmare.
“He was an exciting player and we are very sad to see him and his brother pass away at such a young age,” she told Global News.
Police have charged Sean Higgins, 43, of New Jersey, with two counts of vehicular homicide.
