back Prohibited At Nathan’s Hot Dog Contest, Joey Chestnut said he was “hopeful” a solution could be found to the problem.

“I’m very hopeful that this can be resolved,” Chestnut told On3’s Talia Goodman“If we can work out anything, I’ll be ready. I’ll be hungry.”

Chestnut, who has won the contest 16 times, was barred from competing on July 4 because he signed a deal to represent Impossible Foods, a plant-based food brand and Nathan’s competitor.

Nathan’s reportedly would allow Chestnut to attend if he backed out of his deal with Impossible Foods, but that doesn’t appear to be happening — at least not this year.

Meanwhile, Chestnut will still be competing in a hot dog eating contest this year against one of his biggest rivals. In September, Chestnut will face off against fellow hot dog eater Takeshi Kobayashi in a hot dog eating contest that will air exclusively on Netflix. Unlike a multi-player showdown like the Nathan’s hot dog eating contest, the showdown between Chestnut and Takeshi Kobayashi will be one-on-one.
