The National Task Force Against Trafficking in Persons (NATFATIP) has received another much-needed donation to strengthen its efforts to combat crime. Today, for the third consecutive year, the Task Force received a donation of $1 million Jamaican dollars to assist in the fight against human trafficking and more specifically to strengthen investigations into suspected cases of trafficking, especially of children.
The cheque was handed over by the President of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourism Association (JHTA), Mr. Omar Robinson, and will be delivered directly to the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) and the Anti-Human Trafficking and Violence Unit of the Jamaica Constabulary Force; the arm of the JCF responsible for combating criminal activities in the area of human trafficking.
Accepting the cheque on behalf of NATFATIP, NATFATIP Chairperson and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Science, Energy and Technology, Ms. Carol Palmer, strongly called on the country to step up efforts to protect and keep the nation’s children safe. Ms. Palmer also thanked partners who have contributed to the fight against human trafficking, praising what she described as cooperative police forces, and JHTA, whose partnership and donations over the past three years have helped strengthen NATFATIP’s activities.
