The Presidential Administration issued a special notification on the decision of the City Court to cancel the appointment of Kakha Tsikalishvili as a member of the Supreme Judicial Council.

“Today, something unprecedented in history happened, the court authorities directly and illegally interfered with the constitutional powers of the president and suspended the constitutional act of appointing members of the Supreme Judicial Council. And according to the full powers of the Georgian president, the Georgian constitution provides that the selection and appointment of members of the Supreme Judicial Council cannot be arbitrary; this is a violation of the principle of separation of powers; this is another proof of clan rule. Even one dissenting voice in the Supreme Judicial Council is unacceptable,” said Giorgi Mskhiladze, the president’s parliamentary secretary.
