Italy: A wall linked to slave revolt discovered

Ancient weapons that were built to entrap the rebellious slave Spartacus have been discovered in Italy.

A team of researchers has discovered Roman defensive walls in south-central Calabria, in the south of the country. Teleport Heritage Daily.

The wall in the Dossone della Melia forest is 2.7 km long. In its vicinity, traces of defensive ditches and a double wall system were discovered.

“The discovery was initiated by a local environmental group who knew about the wall’s existence but suspected its purpose. The team used ground-penetrating radar, lidar, magnetometry and soil core sampling to study the site, leading to this important historical discovery,” said Excavation Director Dr. Paul Visonna from the University of Kentucky.
