The Termini Imerese prosecutor’s office, headed by Ambrogio Cartosio, announced the investigation and said it was not targeting any individual.

Lynch’s 18-year-old daughter Hannah also went down when the family’s 56-meter (184-foot) boat, the Bayes, capsized during a fierce storm near Porticello, near Palermo, before dawn on Monday.

Fifteen people survived the accident, including Lynch’s wife, whose company owned the Bayes, and the yacht’s captain.

Mike Lynch, 59, the founder of enterprise software company Autonomy, was acquitted in June for defending himself in a trial involving allegations that he artificially inflated the value of Autonomy when it was sold to tech giant Hewlett-Packard for $11.7 billion.

Capt. James Cutfield and other survivors have been questioned by the Coast Guard on behalf of prosecutors. None of them have commented publicly on how the boat sank.

Divers have been searching the wreck for the past five days and found Hannah Lynch’s body on Friday. Five other passengers were found on Wednesday and Thursday, while the body of the only crew member who died, the ship’s cook, Recardo Thomas, was found on Monday.
