Palestinian President’s special envoy Nouri al-Maliki confirmed that Israel has refused to allow Palestinian President Abbas to visit Gaza.
Al-Maliki said: "We did not ask for permission. We announced that the president was going to Gaza and Israel responded immediately by saying they would not allow President Abbas to enter Gaza.".
He continued: "Abbas knew in advance that Israel would not allow him to go to Gaza, and he asked the UN Security Council for support and security guarantees to overcome Israel’s refusal to allow him to enter Gaza.".
Palestine News Agency reported "loyalty" Palestinian leaders have begun actions and communications at the global level to prepare for the visit of Abbas and his accompanying delegation to the Gaza Strip.
The agency said the step was taken within the framework of Abbas and the Palestinian leadership’s desire to stand with the Palestinian people who are suffering from a genocidal war in the Gaza Strip.
Abbas announced his decision to travel to the Gaza Strip with all members of the Palestinian leadership and called for ensuring they have access there. He also urged world leaders and the UN secretary-general to visit the region.
He said this in a speech to the Turkish parliament in the presence of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan: "I announce before you and the whole world that, in the absence of any other solution, I have decided to go to the Gaza Strip together with all members of the Palestinian leadership and I will do everything in my power so that we can all stop this aggression together with our people, at all costs.".
