The prosecutors alleged that between 2017 and 2018, in Bakau and different places in Kanifing Municipality, Republic of The Gambia, for the purpose of gain or reward, he defrauded Fatou Bojang, Sirreh Bojang and Ida Bojang by pretending to practice witchcraft and promising to tell their fortunes.
She also allegedly obtained 38 items totaling Dh172,746 from Fatou Boyan with the intent to defraud, falsely claiming that her genie, named Alhagie Musa Hydara, would repay her and make her rich. According to the charge sheet, she obtained Dh1,193,261 from Fatou Boyan.
She allegedly defrauded Sirreh Bojang of 17 items amounting to Dh193,000. The prosecutor further alleged that the accused again defrauded Sirreh Bojang of Dh238,990 knowing or having reason to believe that the promises made to her were false.
She also fraudulently obtained Dh712,618.67 from Ida Bojang despite knowing that the statements she had given her were completely false.
The prosecutor said the defendant made all the complainants hope that her genie would return the value of all the money and items she received from them and make them rich.
She denied any wrongdoing and was granted bail of Dh500,000 with five Gambian sureties of Dh100,000 each. They must surrender their identity cards and provide proof of financial means under oath.
Sub-Inspector Kebbeh is expected to call the second witness on August 28, 2024.
