The High Constitutional Court (HCC) yesterday announced the official results of the May 29 Legislative Chamber elections. The presidential platform IRMAR (Isika Rehetra Miaraka Amin’i Andry Rajoelina) won 84 out of 163 seats, which gives them an absolute majority in the National Assembly.

As in 2019, the Presidential Coalition received 84 seats, with 246 candidates running, and the Independence Party received 50 seats. The main opposition platform Firaisankina received 22 seats, including the seat of Faratsiho, where IRMAR candidate Lalatiana Rakotondrazafy failed to win the case of the HCC. Madagascar Kolekitifan’ny received 1 seat, the Green Party received 1 seat, FIVOI received 4 seats and GPJM received 1 seat.

After the HCC processed the request, the 4 independent candidates who were declared elected during the announcement of the provisional results of CENI were not declared the winners in the end. The results announced by the HCC favored the IRMAR candidates in the 4 districts of Maevatanana, Antsohihy, Vondrozo and Farafangana. In the Farafangana district, which had two representatives, the independent list put forward by the former Secretary General of the Ministry of Justice Aina Raby Savatsarah was allocated two seats in the CENI results, but was eventually deprived of one seat by the HCC. The other seat has gone to the IRMAR candidate.
