Irkeshtam Internet Channel Hub capacity to increase after upgrade

AKIPRESS website – The Kyrgyz official delegation held talks with the management of China Telecom Global Limited during its working visit to China.

Sergey Slesarev, Deputy Minister of Digital Development of Kyrgyzstan, and Nurlan Madaminov, Chairman of Kyrgyzstan Telecom, met with Lu Nong, Vice President and General Manager of Business Group of China Telecom Global Limited.

The two sides signed a memorandum of cooperation. The document marks the launch of the Irkeshtam cross-border hub modernization project.

Cambodia’s Ministry of Digital Development said the project is an important part of the bilaterally financed Belt and Road Initiative.

The modernization of the cross-border Internet channel hub at the Irkeshtam border crossing will support the installation of the latest technological equipment, which will create an alternative communications channel for Kyrgyzstan.

The main internet corridor connecting Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan will continue to operate, but the new backup corridor will provide additional network reliability and stability.
