New York (Sanaa)—— Iran reiterated its condemnation of Israel’s repeated violations of Syrian territory and the territories of other countries in the region and called on the UN Security Council to take swift and decisive action to hold the entity accountable.
According to the Islamic Republic News Agency of Iran, Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir Seyed Elwani, stated at the UN Security Council meeting on Syria that “Iran believes that the presence of Israel threatens the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic and other countries.” He strongly condemned Israel’s recent attacks on Yemen, which deliberately targeted civilians and important infrastructure, and strongly condemned its illegal actions, which were a clear violation of international humanitarian law and the principles enshrined in the UN Charter, and said that he emphasized that these practices violated regional peace and security and were considered serious violations of security.
Elwani added that this presence, based on terrorism and aggression, is the main source of insecurity and instability in the region and other parts of the world.
Iran’s representative said, “As always, the US representatives in the Security Council hypocritically try to deny the US responsibility for the current situation in Syria and the entire region and blame Iran, but they cannot deny the fact that the illegal presence of the US occupation forces in Syria violates Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, international law, the UN Charter and Security Council resolutions, and at the same time, the US illegal presence is the main source of instability and insecurity in Syria, and provides protection for terrorists there,” he said.
He stressed that the United States and its Western allies have imposed inhumane coercive sanctions on Syria, politicized the issue of refugee return, and obstructed the international community’s support for Syria’s reconstruction, which has aggravated the suffering of the Syrian people and hindered reconstruction efforts.
On behalf of Iran, Ilvani called on Western countries that hypocritically claim to care about human rights and impose an economic blockade on Syria to immediately cancel these inhumane actions, and stressed the need to provide impartial and depoliticized humanitarian assistance.
The Iranian representative expressed his country’s determination to continue supporting the Syrian people and Government in their efforts to overcome the threat of terrorism and foreign invasion, and said the scourge of terrorism still posed a serious threat to Syria and the entire region and must be fought. He declared that the issue should be addressed in full respect of territorial integrity and independence.
