The project, co-financed by the European Union and implemented by Business Med and seven other partners, aims to strengthen the sustainability of MSMEs in three Mediterranean countries: Tunisia, Egypt and Lebanon. The project provides grants to 38 MSMEs in the green, blue economy and creative industries, as well as three incubators, so that they can strengthen their financial sustainability and their contribution to job creation in the local economy.
“The project provides tailor-made support mechanisms and subsidy schemes for MSMEs and support structures. The focus on creative industries is due to their ability to create jobs. The green and blue economy sectors are a guarantee of sustainable development,” said BusinessMed Zied Debbabide. Maria Ruiz de Cossio, Senior Project Manager for EMEA, said the project has helped entrepreneurs in the region to achieve prosperity in their projects.
“Thanks to the EMEA network of researchers, we were able to come up with recommendations that will be useful for all social entrepreneurs,” she insists. And continues: “The work carried out in the EMEA region aims to improve access to finance for MSMEs by connecting them to financial actors and developing a step-by-step guide to crowdfunding.” Roger Albinyana, Director of the Policy and Human Development Unit for the Mediterranean Region at the Euro-Mediterranean Institute (IEMed), confirms that the project aims to increase entrepreneurial opportunities, especially for young people and women entrepreneurs, as these countries are facing challenges: pressures in the job market and difficulties in obtaining financing are hindering their development.
IEMED is the coordinator of the grant component. The project provides capacity building to selected startups through a mentoring and coaching cycle in partnership with LUMSA University to develop skills in innovation, access to international markets, sustainable development management… “We have selected 15 trainees to participate in the summer school.
Three of them won the Sustainable Business Management Award. ” said Flavia Vighini of Lumsa University. Three others received special awards. Project partners include the Alliance of Mediterranean Business Confederations, BUSINESSMED (TU), EMEA (ES), IEMed (ES), Beyond Group / Irada Group SAL, BRD (LE), Institute for Entrepreneurship Development, IED (GR), Libera Università Maria SS. Assunta, LUMSA (IT), Federation of European Business Associations in Egypt, CEEBA (EG) and finally the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, CCE (ES).
