The State of Qatar celebrates the International Day of Education on January 24th because it believes that education is considered as a main goal of the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations and because it demonstrates its commitment to making education in Qatar up to date and becoming one of the leading countries in the digital transformation of education and its advancement, following the launch of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education’s e-learning strategy, which aims to equip Qatar’s students with high-level digital skills and prepare them for a future that will largely depend on these skills.
To celebrate this global educational event, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education has for the first time set aside a week to celebrate the International Day of Education at the local level, with the slogan “Education is everyone’s responsibility”. From January 21 to 25, a series of events were organized in cooperation with the Government Services and Development Authority, including education dialogue sessions, with the participation of students, teachers, parents, families and all public schools. , based on the fact that investment in the human factor is the most prominent pillar of Qatar’s National Vision 2030, to enhance the concept of social responsibility and remind the role of education in improving individual lives and social progress.
The State of Qatar has been celebrating many international events related to education, its importance and investment in education, including the International Day to Protect Education from Attack, a Qatari proposal that was unanimously adopted and approved by the United Nations. In 2019, States decided to designate September 9 of each year as the International Day for the Protection of Education, under the title “International Day to Protect Education from Attack”, urging the international community to alleviate the plight of students affected by armed conflicts and educational institutions and centres.
In this regard, Qatar also celebrates World Teachers’ Day every October 5 and pays tribute to veteran teachers because it believes in the importance of the teaching profession and teachers, and appreciates and is loyal to their role, in accordance with the Joint Recommendation on the Conditions of Teachers of the International Labour Organization and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which is considered a reference framework at the international level on the responsibilities, rights and obligations of teachers, and the standards for their preparation.
The State of Qatar, under the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the country, may God bless him, and with the good guidance of His Highness, aspires to achieve the highest indicators of quality assurance in all inputs, processes and outputs of education in a manner that meets the needs of society, by making fruitful efforts to achieve the international Sustainable Development Goals and agenda, especially Goal 4 and its targets related to the quality of education, while reimagining the future of education and ensuring the right to education as a public good for all in a manner that meets all needs, capacities and potentials.
At the international level, the country has established extensive international partnerships and initiatives for education and development, and hundreds of millions of people in all continents of the world have benefited from the efforts and initiatives of His Highness the Emir and His Highness the Father. His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the “Education Above All” Foundation, has been highly praised for his work in the field of education, especially in protecting education from attacks in conflict areas. It has been widely welcomed and praised by the international community because it meets the educational needs and aspirations of millions of children and young people who have been deprived of educational opportunities due to armed conflicts around the world, thereby contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations.
In a special statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Maha Zayed Al-Ruwaili, Undersecretary for Education at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, confirmed that the State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry, joins other countries in celebrating the 2024 International Education Day, which is celebrated on January 24th of each year, as a global event, confirming the country’s belief that education is an effective force in achieving the country’s vision and the foundation for building a knowledge society and achieving sustainable development.
She said: The celebration includes the organization of purposeful events and various activities that emphasize strengthening the partnership between parents and schools… “This partnership has an educational and pedagogical dimension that contributes to enriching the educational process and developing the results of the education system.”
Ruwali stressed that the participation of families, schools, public and private universities in the celebration of the International Day of Education sends a clear message that education in the country is everyone’s responsibility, noting that community participation in the educational process has proven its contribution in putting students on the right path to becoming productive forces in the motherland.
She explained that the national passion to prioritize quality, equitable education for all has led to continued success and achievement in global indicators, solidifying the State of Qatar’s position in the global education sector.
She added: “Realising our ambitions will still require considerable efforts and collaboration with national institutions to enable the State of Qatar’s education system to compete and excel globally, and to make education a long-term investment that pays off for our children and society.”
Qatar’s national vision aims to transform the country into an advanced nation capable of achieving sustainable development by 2030, and this goal can only be achieved by establishing an advanced education system in sync with modern global standards, through which Qatar’s human and BroadCast Unitedlectual capital is on the right track and invested in to achieve national and development goals and objectives.
Nevertheless, education for school-age children in Qatar is compulsory and free of charge outside of school, and its system is modern and constantly evolving, offering a high-quality set of advanced and modern scientific courses and professional courses, as well as a comprehensive and diversified approach to education that, in addition to the academic level, also focuses on morals, Islamic values and society.
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education, within the framework of these modern educational plans and programs that keep pace with the times, also provides various special education services for people with special needs through inclusive schools and special schools, where students with special needs are enrolled in general education schools according to the type of services provided and the severity and level of need. Currently, the Ministry is also working on caring for gifted children and developing a framework for identifying, supporting and caring for talented people at all educational stages, in addition to adult education programs and courses, encouraging them to continue their education and providing parallel educational paths for students who are unable to complete the secondary school stage through their own study plans and integrating the same study plans into general education.
In the context of developing the education and teaching system to adapt to modern changes, in order to cultivate a spirit of innovation, initiative and active participation in society from an early age, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education has allocated a comprehensive basic curriculum for early stage education, including kindergarten and first and second grades of primary school, as well as since the Ministry is very interested in special education schools and seeks to expand them, including Qatar Technical Secondary School for Boys, Qatar Bank Science and Secondary Business Administration College for Boys, Men’s Preparatory and Secondary Religious College, Qatar Women’s Bank Science and Secondary Business Administration College and Qatar Technical Secondary School for Boys, all of which are eligible to continue to various higher education and subsequently enter the labor market.
Of course, the interests of the State of Qatar and its wise leadership in education are not only at the national level, but also at the international level, demonstrating its commitment to affirming the right of all to quality education, working to ensure the well-being of millions of children, and making education a top priority to ensure security, protect educational institutions and ensure access to conflict zones.
In this context, Mr. Fahad Al-Sulaiti, Executive Director of the Education Above All Foundation, in a special statement to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), noted that the Foundation plays an important role in spreading and protecting quality education and meeting the educational needs of needy and targeted groups outside Qatar through effective and successful international partnerships.
In this context, he noted that the Foundation’s efforts in this regard cover 60 countries around the world. He said that this year the Foundation decided to focus the celebrations of the International Day of Education on Palestine and Sudan.
In this context, many national institutions celebrate the International Day of Education, which was approved by the United Nations General Assembly in 2018 and is celebrated on January 24 every year. These entities hold various interactive events and activities to reinforce the concept of education and social responsibility and remind the role of education in improving individual lives and social rejuvenation.
On this occasion, the CSD has designated a number of facilities and control measures for parents to attend various celebrations and activities in schools.
