Inspector shoots at thieves’ car; vehicle gets stuck

A Surinamese police inspector used his service weapon last night to convert two thieves who managed to escape despite targeted fire from their vehicle.

Two men recently burglarized a house on Typograafweg in the Pala district. During the burglary, a gas cylinder was stolen. After the burglary, the men fled in a dark-colored Toyota Auris.

The inspector, who quickly understood the situation, first fired a warning shot and then shot directly at the vehicle.

During their escape attempt, the driver lost control and the vehicle became mired in a puddle on the road. The suspects left the vehicle unattended and fled on foot.

Rijsdijk police were alerted and began a local investigation. The vehicle was seized by police and transported to the police station on a tow truck. There is still no trace of the perpetrator.

Surinamese police are working to arrest the perpetrators and the investigation into the case is ongoing.
