« These kidnappings must be stopped absolutely », ordered the President of the Republic, Andry Rajoelina, speaking during the traditional Fandresena ceremony that marked the official discharge of officers from the Antsirabe Military Academy (ACMIL). This strong message comes after another kidnapping in Madagascar to men in camouflage uniforms, which has caused countless victims, especially in the rural commune of Malozipoi, in Antsirabe.
Three weeks ago, five people were taken hostage by militants during an attack in the town. The kidnappers demanded a ransom to free the hostages. But their families were unable to raise the amount they demanded. Eventually, the kidnappers shot all five men at close range. The bodies were found on the night between Thursday and Friday.
The President of the Republic stressed the need to eliminate kidnappings of fellow citizens and recalled the worrying increase in these crimes. Unfortunately, these facts are not recent, as there are many cases and the practices have been the same for many years, such as the kidnapping in Ankazobe in January, where three women were held hostage for several days and one of the hostages was killed during an attack on the village.
In addition to the increasing number of kidnappings, there are Murders in city centers and citiesLike the recent events in Toamasina, where a 61-year-old Reunion man was found dead in the street and a few days later a young man was also murdered in a brawl involving several people. All this without mentioning the sordid murders recorded in the capital or the individual beheadings in Toliara.
This is not the first time that the Head of State has strongly called on the police to take action to deal with the insecurity in the country. He has even made it a priority since his first term. But apparently these actions keep repeating. Unfortunately, the real masterminds of these crimes have never been arrested.
