Indonesia’s OJK to blacklist online gambling players

The Financial Services Authority (OJK) will blacklist online gambling players to ensure they cannot access financial services in Indonesia.

Rizal Ramadhani, deputy regulator of financial services business participants and consumer protection at the Nigerian Financial Services Authority, revealed that the Nigerian Financial Services Authority will enter the data of people involved in online gambling into an information system that can be accessed by financial service providers.

This will allow providers to reject online gambling players.

“We have entered this information into the information system. It is expected to have a deterrent effect,” he said at a press conference on the online gambling eradication declaration in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He assured that the OJK is actively taking measures to prevent and eradicate online gambling, not only as part of the online gambling eradication task force but also as a regulator in the financial services sector.

Ramadani confirmed that in terms of prevention, the OJK has been actively educating and raising awareness about the dangers of online gambling, targeting all consumers in the community and the financial services industry.

He further stated that the OJK, together with the Ministry of Communications and Information and members of the Online Gambling Eradication Task Force, blocked more than 6,000 bank accounts of people involved in online gambling.

“We are committed to banning people who engage in online gambling from all services in the financial services sector,” he stressed.

On the same occasion, Anton Daryono, head of the payment system supervision and consumer protection department of Bank Indonesia (BI), said the central bank had found 689 accounts of 27 payment service providers used for online gambling in the past four weeks.

The central bank also found 123 web links related to online gambling during the same period, as well as 150 accounts sold through e-commerce and social media platforms.
