Jakarta(ANTARA) –
Rizal Edwin, acting secretary general of the National Council of Special Economic Zones of the Philippines, said the Philippine government has received proposals to establish seven special economic zones.
Seven special economic zones are proposed to be established in Java, Sulawesi and the capital of Nusa Tenggara (IKN) in East Kalimantan.
Edwin said at a media briefing on Monday that the Nusa Tenggara Special Economic Zone will aim to provide energy for the new capital and become a hub for mining activities.
He assured that the proposed seven special economic zones would be in demand by numerous domestic and foreign investors.
“One of the nuclear power plants is planned to become a hub for regional economic development and provide energy for IKN,” he said.
From 2012 to the end of June, the SEZs realized investments of IDR 205.2 trillion and employed 132,227 workers.
In the first half of 2024, investment reached IDR 31.4 trillion, accounting for 40% of this year’s IDR 78.1 trillion target. During the same period, employment was 15,229, accounting for only 39% of the target of 38,953.
In addition to providing tax breaks to investors, the government is also optimizing the “one map” policy to accelerate the development of special economic zones and national strategic projects.
