NUSANTHARA, EAST KALIMANTA – Indonesian President-elect Prabowo Subianto has announced that next year’s Independence Day ceremony will once again be held in Nusantara, East Kalimantan.
He made the remarks while accompanying President Joko Widodo to a press conference following the flag-lowering ceremony on Independence Day in the new capital on Saturday.
However, he did not confirm whether the ceremony would be held again at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta and the National Palace in Nusa Tenggara.
“We will see later, but the ceremony will definitely be held here (in Nusantara),” Prabowo said.
Indonesia made history on Saturday with its first Independence Day ceremony in the new capital, presided over by Jokowi and attended by Prabowo.
Vice President Ma’ruf Amin attends the Independence Day celebrations at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta together with Vice President-elect Jibran Rakabumin Raka.
The theme for this year’s Independence Day celebrations is “New Maharashtra, Progressive Indonesia,” reflecting Indonesia’s transition to a new capital and the upcoming change of government.
