Seismic activity around the Sundhnúks crater increased over the weekend and is increasing every day. Icelandic Meteorological Office BulletinAbout 110 earthquakes were recorded yesterday, with about 60-90 earthquakes per day last week. Most of the measured earthquakes were below 1.0 magnitude, but two were measured over the weekend with magnitudes above 2.0, one of which was the largest earthquake measured since the last eruption.

The Norwegian Meteorological Office said that the current seismic activity is similar to that in the days before the last eruption. Therefore, magma flow or even eruption in the Sundnuks crater series could start at any time.

The land at Swazongi is still rising, and magma continues to accumulate in the magma chamber below at a similar rate as in the past few days. The volume of magma beneath Swazongi is greater than before the last eruption last week.
