Libreville, Thursday, August 1, 2024 (Gabon News) – On July 30, 2024, the General Directorate of Merchant Marine received three new ships in Michel Marine (Libreville) to revitalize the operations of the Coast Guard Force, waiting to welcome other personnel that will be deployed in a few weeks to Port-Gentil, Lambaréné, Chibanga and other cities.
The Director General of Merchant Shipping explained that of the three new vessels, one had already had its engine repaired and replaced, while the other two were newly acquired.
“The refurbished vessel is an Ocean 26, whose features allow us to go out to sea regularly. The latest acquisition is a Boston Whaler, 11 to 12 meters in length, equipped with 3 engines and 900 horsepower,” explains Lieutenant Commander Ludovic Edgard Moundounga.
The Minister of Transport, Merchant Marine and the Sea, who was present at the reception, said that this allocation is in full compliance with the decrees issued by the Head of State, General Brice Clotaire Origi Nguema, especially with regard to the security of ports and offshore installations, up to oil barges.
“We have found some equipment that can give this elite unit more authority and productivity. We now have to plan our patrols because some boats don’t necessarily come to the dock and we sometimes have to go offshore to check on them to make sure they are in good condition,” said Captain Loïc Dieudonné Ndinga Moudouma.
The government member and his entourage sailed 10 kilometers at sea to measure the power of the new acquisition.
