“We were honored to be welcomed by the President himself at the presidential palace. It was also a huge pride and we were very, very happy to be able to speak to him, to shake his hand. It was a huge pride,” her husband confirmed.
The 17-year-old young Olympic champion couldn’t believe it either. “I’m honored to meet the president, I never thought I’d get to meet him one day. It’s amazing, he made us feel very, very welcome,” said Kaylia Nemour.
In recent months, both parents have repeatedly acknowledged that, since the change of sports nationality in May 2023, their daughter has been warmly welcomed by the Algerian authorities and that they have provided her with the best conditions.
Born and trained in France, Kaylia Nemour’s dual citizenship saved her career from a premature end. Her father, Jamel, is Algerian, and she was able to represent Algeria after the French Gymnastics Federation (FFG) refused to allow her to resume training and competition following knee surgery in 2021.
