PEORIA — The Illinois State Black Chamber of Commerce (ISBCC) will hold its annual conference this week to promote new collaborations with African countries.
The two-day event, held at the Par-A-Dice Casino Hotel in East Peoria, will feature a series of guest speakers and other activities that will give entrepreneurs and business owners the opportunity to learn from professionals in their fields.
Over 20 local and international companies attended the event to network and collaborate with Chamber members.
ISBCC President and CEO Larry Avery said the meeting was special because they signed an agreement with Zimbabwe to strengthen global relations.
“African Americans are brothers and sisters of Mother Africa, and it’s important for us to reconnect and find jobs and opportunities,” Avery said. “Africa is the richest continent in the world, with more natural resources, but it’s also the poorest in some cases. We think we can help change that and make it a wonderful home for all of us.”
The meeting will end at 9 p.m. Wednesday and will continue Thursday from 7:45 a.m. to 9 p.m.
