ANTARA – The Ministry of Communications and Information (Kominfo) said that IKN Nusantara can be a catalyst to narrow the development gap between western and eastern Indonesia. The Ministry’s Public Information and Communications Director Usman Kansong made the statement while accompanying some national and local media news executives on a tour of IKN Nusantara.
During the visit, the delegation toured Nusantara to learn about its preparations for holding the 79th Independence Day commemorations on August 17, 2024.
“We want to assure the editors that IKN is not just about capital transfers, but real action towards a more just and prosperous Indonesia,” Kansong said.
He added that Nusantara will be developed gradually until 2045.
“Preparations for the Independence Day ceremony on August 17 are only part of the phased work. The current focus is on meeting the basic needs of the ceremony and the feasibility of the ceremony square,” he said.
He stressed that Nusantara will be designed as a new economic growth center to support equitable development across the country.
“IKN will be the hub of Indonesia-centric development aimed at narrowing the development gap between the east and west (regions),” he said.
Nusantara’s Smart Forest City concept is also expected to improve people’s quality of life. It is designed to be a model for future sustainable cities.
Canson He said There is optimism that the development of the IKN will create an efficient and effective bureaucracy.
Wednesday’s tour included a visit to the presidential palace, known as Garuda Palace, which Kansong said was a concrete manifestation of the work of the Indonesian people.
He added: “Garuda is a symbol of our national pride. This palace was built by our own people.”
He expressed the hope that the visit of the Media Director would shed more light on the development of IKN and disseminate accurate information about the capital to the general public.
