Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, reacted to reports on social media by calling on Igbo people to evacuate Lagos and South-West states.
Sanwo-Olu, through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, condemned the act in a statement.
The statement said, “The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was attracted by a post on X’s social media account, LagosPedia, which called on the Igbo people to evacuate Lagos and Southwest Nigeria and prepare for a massive “IgboMustGo” themed protest from August 20 to 30, 2024.

“The Governor of Lagos State and the Lagos State Government wish to distance themselves from these reckless, divisive and dangerous statements and say that Lagos remains the home of every Nigerian citizen, regardless of ethnic nationality.
“Governor Sanwo-Olu believes that the appointment is not only reckless and divisive, but also an attempt to sow discord between the Yoruba people and other tribes in the Southwest, especially those who have made Lagos their permanent residence.”
Sanwo-Olu, therefore, called on residents not to allow any person or group to create tension in the state, calling on security agencies to quickly investigate those behind the incident and bring them to justice.
He further urged residents to ignore the post and any similar ones and pledged to redouble efforts to ensure lasting peace in the state.
