Tegucigalpa– Lenin Rodas, legal representative of the Democratic Unionist Party (UD), recalled that within two weeks the National Electoral Council (CNE) would call for internal elections and if, before the date of September 7, they did not issue a resolution contrary to the original plan, the party would automatically have the right to participate, according to the ruling of the Constitutional Court.
“They should issue a decree to cancel the resolution or decree that gave us life because remember, UD was registered by a decree of the legislative branch,” Rodas said.
The UD Party was created after the Esquipulas Agreement by Decree No. 189-93 of the National Assembly and later approved by the CNE.
The legal professional said the five parties threatened with delegitimization have different situations, though he added that “this does not mean that the CNE cannot issue a resolution these days, it could be a strategy on their part to wait until the last minute.”
If they remain in power, Rodas does not rule out that as a political force they may form an alliance with another party, but this will be a matter for them to decide after internal elections. Venture Capital
