On Friday, July 26, 2024, at the initiative of Laurent Saint-Cyr, presidential adviser, Prime Minister Garry Conille, accompanied by several members of the Cabinet and the Minister of Economy and Finance, Ketleen Florestal, met with a group of employers’ associations in Villa d’Accueil to discuss the new tax code.
While there was general support for the adoption of such a tax code, the opinions expressed at the meeting suggested that the government improve the content of the tax code and adjust the tax policy to better take into account the current socio-economic realities.
The associations believe that this adjustment is essential to strengthen the competitiveness of the national economy and contribute to a sustainable and inclusive economic recovery that creates wealth and well-paid jobs, in the collective interest. They emphasize that the implementation of the current tax law may have adverse effects on taxpayers, including existing companies and interested investors who face many challenges and requirements of international competitiveness.
In light of the concerns raised, the Prime Minister and his advisers agreed on the need to continue consultations and working workshops on the draft new tax code, which is due to come into force next October.
Consultant Laurent Saint-Cyr believes that this approach, designed in a spirit of constructive partnership, will allow the Government to continue to address economic issues in a fair way, taking into account the difficulties and challenges faced by our businesses and the entire population.
