The life span of a thief is 39 days, while the owner of the garden has only one day to catch the thief, making a total of 40 days. This famous African proverb of 40 days is exactly what happened when supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) party tried to disrupt an event in Canada celebrating the National Resistance Movement and Museveni’s achievements.
This was held on Sunday, August 4, 2024, and was the first diaspora ceremony organized by Ugandans to recognize the achievements of President Museveni and the ruling National Resistance Movement since the liberation of Uganda in 1986.
This is the second session of thedayIn 2024, celebrations were held at the Kololo Independence Ground in Kampala, with President Museveni personally attending and agreeing to other celebrations in Uganda and in the diaspora.
Tensions suddenly flared when about 15 National Unity Party (NUP) supporters armed with megaphones took to the streets near the Ugandan Embassy in Ottawa, Canada, where more than 500 National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporters had gathered to start celebrations.
The National Unionist Party supporters, with their usual tactics of arrogance and activism, immediately sprang into action, shouting and screaming.
“Museveni must go; stop worshipping dictators.” What they didn’t know was that the cadres of the National Resistance Movement had had enough of their ways and were ready to use the same tactics against them.

The team, under the command of former UPC Iron Lady Ambassador Acheng and another brave NRM cadre from Northern Uganda, Lilly Obina, held their ground and did a great job fighting off NUP fans who tried to stop the celebrations.
The ZANU elements became barking dogs like the protesters in their attempt to obstruct the event but ultimately failed. Ambassador Acheng and Obinna boldly fought back and eloquently expressed why they would always respect Museveni and the National Resistance Movement.
Obinna, dressed in a plain yellow loose dress and speaking in a strong Luo accent, confidently told NUP members: “I have the same rights as you in Canada and I can stand up for what I believe in. I believe the Museveni government is doing great things for Uganda.”

Almost in a rage, Obinna bravely confronted and successfully educated the opposition National Unity Party supporters in fluent English to always respect the rights of those with different opinions and stop hooligan politics.
Behind the scenes, Ambassador Ah Cheng kept warning them not to resort to kidnapping in order to obtain travel documents to Canada.
Faced with the fierce clashes, the NUP group withdrew immediately after being overpowered and unable to withstand the aggressive and emotionless speeches of Ambassadors Acheng and Obina.
After successfully stopping the rowdy procession, the bold NRM ladies (Ambassadors Acheng and Obina) led a super excited procession while shouting with huge kicking movements: (Eeeeh, Eeeeh, Eeeeh, Eeeeh, Yellow Yellow Canada, we are strong here, no one can defeat us).
Equipped with the famous JBL Party-Box mobile speakers, the cadres of the National Resistance Movement then smoothly marched along the main streets to the residence of Ambassador Acheng, where the final celebrations were held.
In his speech, Ambassador Acheng expressed his appreciation to President Museveni and the National Resistance Movement regime for restoring peace and stability in Uganda.
Ambassador Acheng further urged Ugandans abroad to return home and invest to contribute to the economy that supports the strong recovery of the National Resistance Movement regime.
The event’s general convener, Dickson Asiimwe, commended Ugandans abroad for standing firm despite threats from the opposition and celebrated the achievements of President Museveni.
He vowed to make it an annual event and expand it to other countries.
