The BBC reported that police forces around the world have joined forces to carry out a series of covert operations targeting the Black Axe, one of West Africa’s largest criminal groups.
Interpol called the operation a “significant blow” to the Nigerian criminal network, but warned that its international scale and technological advances meant the gang still posed a global threat. For example, Canadian authorities announced that in 2017 they had uncovered a money laundering scheme linked to Black Axe worth more than $5 billion.
