Getting public information in Mexico is easier than it seemsWith the National Transparency Platform (PNT), anyone can exercise their constitutional right to know what is happening within public institutions. You don’t need to be a legal expert or have advanced technical knowledge. Just follow this guide and you’ll be ready to make your first request.
Step 1: Preparation
Before you get started, make sure you have a computer or phone with an internet connection. PNT offers a web version as well as mobile apps for Android and Apple, so choose the option that works best for you.
Step 2: Create your account
Access platform: Visit www.plataformadetransparencia.org.mx.
Register: If this is your first time, you will need to create an account. Don’t worry about your privacy; you can use a pseudonym if you wish to remain anonymous.

Confirm your email: You will receive a confirmation message. Activate your account to log in.
Step 3: Make your request
Login: Use your username and password to enter the platform.
Select Request: and then select Access Information.
Person Type: Indicate whether you are a natural person or a legal entity. You may use any name or pseudonym you prefer.
Select institution: Decide which public entity you want to request information from. You can select up to 33 institutions at a time.

Define Notifications: Select how you would like to receive updates about your request. The recommended option is via the PNT system.

Additional Information: The sections on statistics, accessibility, and indigenous languages are optional, so don’t worry if you decide to leave them blank.
Accept the Privacy Statement: Agree to the processing of your personal data in accordance with the Privacy Statement.
Step 4: Submit and track your request
When you submit your request, you will see a confirmation message. Download receipt confirmation to track your program and reply date. If you are unable to download them, don’t worry, you will receive a confirmation email.
INAI will monitor compliance with transparency and access to information
Response time: The agency has 20 business days to respond to your request. If they need more time, they will let you know and it may take up to 30 business days to get a response. If the information is not the responsibility of the selected agency, they will let you know within three business days.
