You’ve probably seen the phrase “only good vibes” with a ✌️ on social media, or heard a friend say “I’m feeling the vibe!” or “Not the vibe, bro.” To decipher these phrases, we first need to define “vibe.”
Vibes refer to the spiritual vibrations or frequencies of the world. These frequencies are created by energy. In other words, vibes are the energetic mood of something or someone. Think of it like a radio connection. Each time you turn the knob, you tune into a different station – and vibes work the same way! Everything and everyone has energy, which some people believe can be good or bad. You can tune into different energies by focusing on positive or negative emotions.
Now that you know what vibes are, let’s take a closer look at some common phrases:
“Only good mood!” When someone says “good mood,” they are referring to positive energy or a happy emotion.(1)
People often use the phrase “only good moods” to indicate that they only welcome positive thoughts and/or feelings into their space. This phrase may seem innocent, but it can become negative in certain situations. Some people believe that “only good moods” is a form of harmful positivity because it is unrealistic to only have happy emotions.(2)
“Feel the atmosphere” If someone says they want to “feel the vibe” or “feel the vibe,” it means they are resonating with someone on an emotional or spiritual level. Let’s go back to the radio example. Let’s say you have two radios on at the same time. At first, they’re playing different stations on different channels. But the longer you switch between stations, the closer you’ll be to the same station. The same thing is true with “feeling the vibe” with someone! The longer you spend talking or relaxing with someone, the more likely it is that your energies will be in sync.
“Atmosphere” The term is often used interchangeably with “hanging out” or “chilling out.” If someone “vibes” with another person, they are likely spending a good time together and connecting on an emotional or spiritual level.
“Cool atmosphere” If someone has a “calm temperament,” they’re just super-gentle. They’re likely the more laid-back person in the group and like to go with the flow. In other words, they’re pretty chill!
