On Saturday, June 1, we Icelanders will go to the voting booths and draw an X next to the candidate we want to be the president of our country for the next four years. Never in the history of the republic have so many people decorated the ballot paper, or no more or less than twelve. Feyki asked the candidates several questions, and they all took the time to answer them. You can read Ásdís Rán Gunnarsdóttir’s answers to Feyki below.

Why should people vote for you? – If you look at my general experience and the fact that I don’t have any direct connections, whether you look at politics, institutions, interest groups or particular struggles, I think that gives me that important neutrality and thus the strength to hold on to office. I believe I have a lot of good things to offer the country, and I have a lot of experience speaking publicly on behalf of the country both at home and abroad.

Why do you want to be president of Iceland? – I am very interested in encouraging good in society and using my experience to do good. The presidency cannot be strengthened unless it is filled by someone with a different background, different priorities and leadership skills. So I think it’s time to install a queen in Bessastaðir!

What surprised you most about the battle at Bessastaðir? – Maybe that’s why this battle is totally controlled by the media and the polls. It’s a huge force that is hard to deal with and controls whoever comes out on top or becomes president.

But now is the time to celebrate the gains of the campaign of the past months, and I am proud to bring a fresh and positive tone to the candidacy process of this presidential election. How many votes are cast on Saturday will not change that. We set a precedent, encouraging people to break free from the shackles of stagnant beliefs and challenge the impossible, which we believe is often the beginning of a successful journey. Our struggle is and will be an electoral victory, because we managed to come from an unexpected direction, rush into the field of national affairs and paint the town red. Showing sexy and vivid phrases, bringing joy and lightness to life, and most importantly, making people think, thus making an impact on the contemporary world. This is what will remain in the years to come.

What is the biggest challenge in your life? – I have always been good at challenging myself in various tasks in life, but I now think that running for president may be one of the biggest tasks yet! It is a huge challenge and a risk to make this decision, especially when you are a nationally known figure and the outcome of this path, whether good or bad, is completely hidden. So it is a bit like Russian roulette.

When and where did you first meet your current partner? – Now I’m just single and he’s nowhere to be found.

What do you want to be when you grow up? – I love animals so much that I originally planned to become a veterinarian, but I ended up taking a completely different path and today I kind of regret that I didn’t make that dream come true 😀

Bessastaðir is good farmland, with good coastal grazing for sheep throughout the winter, for example. If you become president, do you plan to farm in Bessastaðir? – I would probably let farm animals suffice, but I could definitely imagine owning 2-3 horses, then I would get cats, and most likely I would add some guard dogs.

All candidates were asked the same questions. Chance and space determined the order in which the presidential articles were arranged on the pages of Feyki’s paper edition. The publishing schedule on Feykir.is is opposite to that of the newspaper, but the interviews will be published from Wednesday to Friday. Fekir thanked the presidents for taking the time to answer.
