The KDH states that in a few years Slovakia will be in danger of the collapse of the social system and pension payments. This statement of the CDU is linked to demographic data published by the Statistical Office, according to which by 2050 the population of Slovakia over 65 years old will increase to more than 1.5 million, which is about 30% of the total population. Therefore, the KDH, as a pro-family movement, calls on the government to start solving this problem and develop measures to increase the birth rate in Slovakia.
“In Slovakia, the population has been decreasing for a long time, while the number of pensioners has been increasing. In 2020, there are 919,000 pensioners in Slovakia, but by 2050 this number should exceed 1.5 million, which is unsustainable for the social system. To date, the government has not presented any solutions or willingness to resolve this outstanding issue. In a few years, the Slovak social system will be in danger of collapse, and the state will not be able to pay pensions for people who have worked honestly all their lives.” said Martina Holečková, president of the KDH Parliamentary Club and expert in the social field.
Holeckova also drew attention to the government’s complete lack of interest in pro-family policies. “For a long time, there have been fewer births than deaths in Slovakia. Yet the government has absolutely no interest in family policy and has no clear vision on how to increase the birth rate. We therefore call on the government to immediately start dealing with the situation and present a plan of family-friendly measures to reverse this negative trend.” Holeckova added.
