Ivan Ihirwe Ganza, the name of the child born to Niyonsenga, was arrested by the police who woke up to vote after he learnt that there was a voting site even at the CHUB hospital where he was staying.
“I am very happy to give birth on July 15, 2024. A few days ago, on Friday, I went for a check-up and they told me that I will give birth today and I feel happy about my delivery date,” she told Kigali Today.
He continued: “I woke up this morning and felt like I was pregnant and I thought I wasn’t anymore? The doctors immediately did everything they could to take care of me, they did the surgery and I had the baby.”
Ikina was hospitalized for a short time, and he felt that there was nothing wrong, and seeing that the child was doing well, he asked the doctor who was taking care of him to vote. They put him in a cart, and he went to vote while taking care of the child.
Lucky is Niyonsenga’s third child. “I gave birth to a boy and I met a girl. You feel good. We are happy.”
As for her motivation for voting after giving birth, she said: “I felt I should vote for a good candidate who is good for us. I felt my voice should not be excluded.”
More than 700 people voted at the CHUB polling station, including patients, patients and others who came for medical treatment but were not present.
