King Mswati III arrived in Taiwan on the 18thday In May, he was welcomed by then-president-elect Lai Ching-te, who attended the inauguration ceremony on Monday, May 20.dayalong with Inkhosikati LaFogiyane and the Royal Family.
The visit was not only an honour for the allies but also a door to opportunities for EmaSwati as His Majesty decided to have the renowned Taiwan Hua Nan Bank establish a financial institution in Swaziland. Robert Li, Director and President of the Bank, was delighted to be working with the Central Bank of Swaziland, a sentiment echoed by the Governor of the Central Bank of Swaziland, Dr Phil Mnisi, who was also in attendance. The two central banks subsequently signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation which is expected to boost prices and economic development.
His Majesty’s meeting with President Lai and his delegation resulted in an agreement to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the Kingdom of Swaziland and the Republic of China (Taiwan) to undertake a business digitization project in Swaziland. President Lai said Swaziland is a good ally for Taiwan because the country represents peace, which is his top priority during his term. His Majesty’s feelings for Swaziland match his own, assuring the new President that “Swaziland is your true friend on the African continent.”
His Majesty also said that the digitalization project will open many doors for Swazi youth. In order to create more opportunities for Swazi youth, His Majesty also met with Swazi students studying in Taiwan and encouraged them to bring their first-world training back to Swaziland. He called on the Swazi Embassy in Taiwan to develop a database of graduates’ resumes to open more doors of opportunity for Swazi students studying in Taiwan and abroad.
His Majesty returned to the Kingdom on Thursday, May 23road.
