His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir, congratulated Olympic champion Moataz Barshim on winning the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics, saying that Barshim has become an inspiring sporting role model for generations of Qataris.
“I congratulate our Olympic champion Mumtaz Barshim for winning a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, adding to his Olympic career in which he has won a gold medal and two silver medals, as well as other great achievements in international sports competitions,” His Highness said on the platform of the ‘X’ Games.
His Highness added: “These successes have become an honourable and inspiring sporting example for generations of Qataris, who will contribute to enhancing the country’s reputation in the field of sports.”
Barshim won a bronze medal in the high jump at the Stade de France in Paris.
Barshim cleared 2.34m and finished third, behind Hamish Kerr of New Zealand and Shelby McEwen of the United States. This is Barshim’s fourth consecutive Olympic medal at the Olympics, following silver medals at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2016 Rio Olympics, as well as gold at the Tokyo Olympics in the summer of 2021. He also has three world championship titles (2017, 2019 and 2022), a silver medal (2013) and a bronze medal (2023).
