Hezbollah and its Palestinian ally Hamas announced they fired rockets at Israeli positions on Saturday (July 20) in retaliation for attacks that killed and injured civilians in southern Lebanon and casualties from clashes in Gaza.
Since Hamas launched an attack on southern Israel on October 7, triggering the war in the Gaza Strip, Hezbollah has been engaging in almost daily exchanges of fire with Israeli troops in support of Hamas.

Israeli strikes killed at least five people on Thursday, including the commander of a Hamas-allied militant group in Lebanon, according to militant groups and security sources.
On Tuesday, Lebanese state media reported that an Israeli attack in southern Lebanon killed five Syrians, including three children, prompting Hezbollah to retaliate by firing rockets into Israel.
According to AFP statistics, at least 515 people have been killed in Lebanon since the conflict broke out in October. Most of the dead were armed personnel, but at least 104 of them were civilians.
According to Israeli authorities, 18 soldiers and 13 civilians died on the Israeli side.
