At 2:43 a.m., Novi Sad fire and rescue personnel received a call for help on telephone number 193 about a fire in a house of six in the Saraica settlement. The call lasted 52 seconds and was obtained by Telegraf. One minute after the conversation ended, the station’s cameras recorded the departure of two fire trucks carrying nine firefighters. Five minutes after the report was published, at 2:47 a.m., the city government’s cameras recorded the passage of firefighters 200 meters from the scene, as shown in the video below:
– Good evening. The house is on fire. The house is on fire and the children are inside.
(FIREMAN) How about the streets?
– Đorđa Dere, 28
(Firefighter) Novi Sad?
– Yes, yes, Novi Sad, please, the children are inside
(Firefighter) What part of town?
– Saleka
(Firefighter) So the house is on fire
– Yes, yes, the house
(Firefighter) Can you get out?
– We’re outside, the kids are inside, please
(Firefighter) Okay, okay, we’ve got a team coming.
Firefighters arrived at the scene at 2:48 a.m. and found that the house with an area of about 50 square meters was on fire. At 2:53 a.m., the fire was extinguished.
On this occasion, Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dačić announced that Novi Sad firefighters and rescue workers arrived at the scene within five minutes of receiving the report of the fire near Saraica this morning, and the statement that firefighters arrived at the scene an hour after the fire was reported is absolutely not true.
“I ordered that full information on the matter be given to me and I was informed that, through a review of the 192 and 193 systems, it was determined that the first report of the fire was made at 193 at 2:43 a.m. and that the conversation lasted 52 seconds and was a recording of the conversation.
At 2:48 a.m., Police No. 192 received a notification from the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Nine firefighters and two vehicles from the Novi Sad Emergency Management Agency put out the blaze, while police and prosecutors investigated the scene.
Six people lost their lives in this terrible fire, including four children aged between two and seven years old,” Minister Dacic said, stressing that in such situations compassion and respect should come first for the victims.
“There were six victims in this fire, four of whom were children. Let us not speculate on the alleged unprofessional conduct of the firefighters, who responded promptly and professionally as soon as they were reported.
Minister Dacic said: “The fire itself is a terrible tragedy. The whole of Serbia is mourning the tragic death of this family. We should not change the subject but act in a way that is appropriate to the situation.”
Minister Dacic called on the media to check all information from the Media and Communications Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs before publishing text in order to provide the public with true, reliable and accurate information.
