Sanna Lehtinen of the city’s traffic management department said that despite two accidents on consecutive days, such incidents were rare.
A pedestrian was seriously injured after being hit by a tram in Helsinki on Friday afternoon, according to local rescue services.
The injured were taken to hospital for treatment. Tapio Titonen Helsinki Fire Department staff said.
The incident occurred at around 12:30 p.m. at the tram stop next to Hakaniemi Market Square.
According to HSL, the city’s public transport management department, the accident caused other tram lines to temporarily change their routes.
A similar collision between a tram and pedestrians occurred in front of Helsinki Central Station just before 5pm on Thursday.
The Helsinki City Rescue Department, which sent three rescue teams to the scene, said a woman was involved in the accident but she did not fall under the tram and was unconscious when emergency workers arrived.
