Heavy rains affected the province of Puntarenas this Monday afternoon and evening. According to the National Emergency Committee (CNE), the states most affected are Quepos, Parita yes Garabitoexcept for the area Lepanto.

The latter, part of the central state of Puntarenas, has seen the highest number of incidents due to post-rain flooding and thunderstorms. As of 8:23 p.m., the CNE had recorded 48 reports of flooding. The Cabo Blanco River was reported to have overflowed, with water overflowing the bridge leading to Paquera and flooding several houses.

In the morning, the president of the CNE, Alejandro Picado, reported on the intervention carried out in the river to mitigate the damage and prevent further impacts on families.

Quepos suffered five flooding incidents, affecting seven houses, due to sewage saturation in the town of Inmaculada. In addition, landslides on public roads hampered transportation in San Juana.

In Parita, a sewer pipe collapsed, flooding a house in the center of the state. In Garabito, the Seca River overflowed and saturated the sewage system in the center of Jaco.

According to the National Meteorological Institute (IMN), this Monday, tropical wave number 27 passed through the national territory, exacerbating atmospheric instability and producing rainfall of varying intensities.

However, the Lepanto Peninsula region of Puntarenas has been devastated since Sunday, August 25. The CNE reports 74 flood alerts in the town, with the overflowing of the Blanco River affecting the communities of Fresca, Coto and San Blas. About 90% of the houses were damaged and more than 50 were flooded.

Incessant rains and saturation of the soil caused the river to overflow, leading to activities of the local committee. Food, water, mattresses and other supplies were distributed to the affected families, who had lost electrical appliances, furniture, beds and other belongings.
